"There's a different search for volume in animals. What I've always been looking for is animality in humans and humanity in animals.

In the eye of the fish, I look for what the fish feels, and I try to compare it with human sensations and feelings, to the best of my knowledge... My animals are different humans, my humans are different animals. I try to marry the two, to link the power of certain animals to the power or fragility of humans."

"Gérard LEMARIÉ: How did the idea of hybrid entities come into your universe?

Mauro CORDA: As I said before, there was a desire to mix unmixable genres, to mix unmixable characters and qualities. Uniting the good and the bad, the joyful and the melancholy, the light and the deep, through sculpture. A mad desire to attribute new qualities to animals, which may one day reveal new things to mankind.

A feeling of strength through the horns, of weakness through the "eyes sad to die for", and here appears my curious Orangutan, now for eternity an old philosopher filled with wisdom."
