SAROUK carpet (Iran), mid-20th century Dimensions: 337 x 223cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on cotton backing. A large navy field supports a polychrome semiset of florets, forming starry crosses and is adorned with a vegetalized, oblong, polylobed, brick and ivory medallion. Superb small brick spandrels with acanthus leaf accolades and floral composition. Two old-gold counter-borders, highlighted with sky, surround the main brickwork, all five with multicolored flower garlands.
