TABRIZ carpet signed (Persia), Shah period, circa 1965 - Lot 224
TABRIZ carpet signed (Persia), Shah period, circa 1965 Dimensions: 284 x 200cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on cotton backing. An old gold field decorated with weeping willows, flowering trellises and multicolored plant stems hosts a bright red, oblong, poly-lobed counter-field, adorned with floral scrolls and a multitude of polychrome floral compositions, each more shimmering than the last. In the center is a navy medallion with a heart and a cruciform brick floral rosette. Weeping willows are found at the four cardinal points of the medallion, surrounded by exuberant flora. The main navy border with undulating garlands and flower stems is flanked by two ivory counter-borders with a succession of stylized flowers and leaves. The signature appears in an ivory cartouche in one of the lower counter borders.
